Gary Brothers

Gary has been engaged on tax disputes, investigations and enquiries for over 30 years on “both sides of the fence”, having moved to the profession from HMRC almost 20 years ago. With his acknowledged wealth of experience, he is widely regarded as a “go to” advisor for any matters relating to HMRC. Having held a host of very Senior positions in professional firms, he then set up the award-winning practice Independent Tax in 2013, where he and his team continue to support clients through all manner of HMRC issues securing great outcomes. Gary recalls a client once describing him as “a thinker and a warrior”, which is a compliment he was delighted to receive!

Mike Walden

Mike Walden is a Tax Investigations Senior Manager at Grant Thornton. He joined Grant Thornton in August 2019 from HMRC. His current work is focused on assisting clients in dealing with Tax investigations, and disclosures, as well as assisting in resolving disputes with HMRC. Mike is based in Manchester, but assist clients across the North of England. With extensive experience working within HMRC for 7 years means Mike is well placed to assist with all HMRC enquiries both personal and corporate. Mike was a strategic sector lead within HMRC's Anti Money Laundering Supervision team, so he can also help with AMLS disputes.

Mala Kapacee

She is a well-known tax author, founded the London Tax Society in 2017, and lectures regularly for professional bodies including the CIOT, CIMA and (soon), the ICAEW.
